Consecration

Josh 3:5 Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.”

This scripture teaches us that what we do today affects our tomorrow.  God told the Children of Israel, CONSECRATE today, and then tomorrow you will see the results of what you do today. The results of today will become the amazing things of tomorrow! It has been said numerous times that “preparation time is never wasted time.”  How many times have we heard about being prepared, preparing for our future, preparing for retirement, preparing, preparing, preparing!

There are times that we feel so overwhelmed by preparation that we try to bypass it.  We have become a society that wants results without preparation.  We want the cake without mixing the ingredients and baking it.  We want the bread, but we don’t want to wait for it to rise.  We want slow-cooked roast results in about a minute.  God works in our life but we must realize there is a preparation process. There are things he needs to mix into our lives and these things just take time.  By his own hands He takes Godly character, holiness, right living, Godly decision making, right relationships, becoming a living witness for Him, and the fruit of the Spirit and folds them into our lives and these things take time.

Things that are done by hand are more valuable than things that are mass produced by a machine.  There is a reason for that.  If it was hand-made, there was care involved.  If something is hand-made there is creativity and personal input and touch that you do not get out of something that was stamped out or put together on an assembly line.  And the one thing we note in the market is that things that are quality hand-made items are not only better made but also more costly.  The reason that that they are more costly is because there was more TIME involved in producing the finished product.  Someone possibly  put their blood sweat and tears into it.

Do you want to be a cookie cutter religious church-goer or do you want to be a hand-crafted masterpiece with God’s signature on your life?  In the art world there are reproductions and there are originals.  Reproductions can have some value but nothing has the value of an original.  God wants to make us originals designed by Him but you can’t just become what God wants you to be overnight, it takes preparation.  It takes going through the process of God working in your life.  Today, prepare your heart.  Do the right things, obey God’s Word and consecrate your life (sanctify, prepare, dedicate, be hallowed, be holy, be sanctified, be separate) so that the results of today becomes the amazing things of tomorrow!
